The stars at night are big and bright...

"We had a great time at Legacy Ranch. The property is beautiful and so close to town. The stars are big and bright, a real quiet getaway from big city life."

Dr. Okerholm Loghaus -

Machenzie, Tomball, TX

Prime Location

You will definitely enjoy the serenity of our remote location, but we're just 8 minutes to the shops on Main Street via Highway 87.  We are a short 14.5 mile drive to Enchanted Rock & 1.4 miles to Hill Top Cafe where you can enjoy Live Music with tasty dining and soothing drinks while reminiscing.

Wine Country & Dining

Fredericksburg is quickly becoming known for it's growing wine industry.  We are located just minutes from vineyards, wineries and some of the most delicious dining in all of Texas.

With an impressive selection of tasty cuisine and award-winning local chefs, you'll enjoy savoring the hill country flavors!

Long talks by the fire are one of the best ways to take in the Hill Country, unwind and reconnect.  All of the guest houses have pretty views and a comfy patio in which to lounge fireside, tell tall tales and make plans to change the world for the better.

Christmas Holiday Decor

Fredericksburg is consistently chosen as a Christmas holiday destination for those who love the charm of a small town a la Hallmark style!  Your stay in our guest houses is no exception.  Every room of every house is tastefully decorated in the same theme as the respective house.  From nutcrackers in the German Sieben Salthaus to little nature animals in the Dr. Okerholm Loghaus to farm & ranch decor in the NK Harper Barnhouse.   Proportionate Christmas trees stand proudly in each house and garland abounds for that all-encompassing Christmas nostalgia!

Steeped in history, Fredericksburg is an incredible place to visit museums and learn about heritage, survival and development of early Texas settlers.  Our guest houses have a history of their own.  Click here to be directed to photos of the houses where they once stood, were under construction and view other interesting moments in Legacy Ranch history.

Dr. Okerholm, N.K. Harper and their legacies are shared in our guest houses.  We utilize the houses as a segue to keep their memory and their impact on the world alive.  We are simply the storytellers.

An avid writer and creator, April Okerholm has immensely enjoyed sharing the history and thought behind Legacy Ranch.  "Everything truly happens for a reason...the key is to find the beauty in all of it" is one of her many mantras. That job is very, very easy at Legacy Ranch. Inspiration abounds and the beauty and challenge of the changing seasons helps.  The frequent affirmations found at Legacy Ranch since 2018 have shown April & Erik they are right where they belong.  Just be sure not to interrupt them during morning coffee...that's when the ranch is whispering creative (and often expensive) instructions to them.

Breakfast & Meals

Because we aren't staffed, each house has great kitchen areas to full sized, fully-functioning kitchens for your convenience.  Each house is stocked with morning coffee needs (filter-less coffee pot, coffee & decaf, sugar, creamer) and all the cookware and utensils you need to prepare breakfast & meals. If you decide to stock up on food at HEB in town, you're just 12 minutes from the property. We also have excellent recommendations for personal chefs.

The Landscape

The Texas Hill Country weather can be extreme so the property is thoughtfully landscaped with drought-tolerant, blooming and native plants.  Come Springtime, a scattering of  bluebonnets, abundant verbena and other wildflowers grace the property!

For those who want to explore the ranch, the perimeter is mowed for a lovely .6 mile walk per lap.

We understand escaping to the Hill Country may mean you want to disconnect while connecting with family & friends.  You found the place! At Legacy Ranch, we have GREAT Wi-fi, but it's up to you if you want to share the log-in!  For company retreats, there's enough Wi-fi to go around.  We won't apologize if the hill country distracts you from your meeting though.

Wineries Tour

Whereas Fredericksburg is known for their peaches, we're also becoming widely known as the Napa of the Texas Hill Country.  The furthest Fredericksburg winery is just 25 minutes away from Legacy Ranch so you can head there first thing in the morning and work your way back to shop & end with rest & relaxation back at the ranch.

Relax & Unwind

We require a 2 night stay minimum because we know you'll need it!  You simply can't see it all in one day and even seeing it all in a weekend would be a stretch.  However our houses are so relaxing to come "home" to after enjoying your new playground, we know we'll see you again soon.  You'll remember how relaxed you felt sitting by the fire with a glass of wine last time.  Waking up to a beautiful Texas sunrise on your porch, coffee in hand while watching the deer stroll by will beckon you to return.

Shopping & Dining

You get the absolute best of both worlds in that you're in the beautiful Texas Hill Country with wide open spaces while still being 8 very short minutes from downtown shopping & excellent dining.  The area of Fredericksburg offers over 200 storefronts for which you can shop, taste, enjoy, visit and spend to your hearts content!

Leisure Activities

Golf, tennis, shopping, bird & wildlife watching, live music, museums

and numerous historic places are all within a 20 mile radius of

Legacy Ranch.

Historical Area

From Fort Martin Scott to the LBJ Ranch, The Nimitz Museum to the Pioneer Museum or Historic Schools tour, Fredericksburg's National Historic District to The National Museum of the Pacific War...we even have Luckenbach!

History abounds here!

Abundant Wildlife

The Texas Hill Country and namely Fredericksburg are the best places to see native and exotic wildlife every few minutes during your visit to the Hill Country.  Texas wildflowers only add to why you'll love your Fredericksburg getaway.
